History of BWUA

Founded 25 years ago in 1985, BWUA has been one of the University of Pennsylvania’s most successful minority student organizations. Currently, the organization boasts over 140 talented members of the Wharton community with undergraduate constituency from the other undergraduate schools at Penn including the College of Arts and Sciences and the Engineering School.

Our mission is to maintain and increase the academic success of African-American students on the undergraduate level; to increase communication between the student body and the University administration; to establish and maintain relationships between students and the external corporate community; and to represent the African-American interest in business or business-related issues for undergraduates at the University of Pennsylvania.

Our goal is to enhance the college experience of our members by providing them with the opportunities to become well-rounded individuals through social, community service, mentorship, academic development, and professional development activities and programs.

Over the course of the year, BWUA hosts a number of memorable events including:

  • Freshmen Luncheon welcoming the newest class of students
  • BWUA Speaker Series featuring top executives and companies
  • Annual black tie G.A.L.A. community service benefit celebration
  • General body meetings exposing members to many facets of the business world
  • Professional development workshops
